ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), in collaboration with Aspire Pakistan, has announced the launch of the PEC Global Engineering Freelance Initiative, a major step aimed at preparing Pakistani engineers for the rapidly expanding global digital economy.

The programme, scheduled from April 13 to April 17, will provide structured online training to help engineers explore international freelancing opportunities and develop skills needed to work beyond geographical boundaries. A total of 5,000 seats have been allocated for the initiative, which is open to PEC-registered engineers, early-career professionals, and engineers seeking additional income streams through global platforms.

The initiative reflects the changing nature of the engineering profession, where digital technologies are enabling professionals to contribute their expertise worldwide. Through live online learning sessions, participants will receive guidance on understanding freelancing opportunities in engineering, navigating international freelance platforms, building strong engineering portfolios, and learning practical strategies to secure their first freelance project. The programme will also provide personalised career assessment using AI-enabled profiling to evaluate participants’ technical skills, digital capabilities, and professional interests, helping them identify suitable freelance pathways.

Chairman PEC, Engr Waseem Nazir, said that the Global Engineering Freelance Initiative is a forward-looking effort to prepare Pakistani engineers for the future of the profession. He stated that the engineering field is rapidly moving toward digital and remote work environments, and Pakistani engineers need to adapt to these global trends. He emphasised that PEC is committed to empowering young engineers by providing them with modern skills, international exposure, and new avenues of income so they can compete confidently in the global market.

According to the PEC, the initiative will also help identify the most promising freelance engineering services, highlight skill gaps among engineers, and determine future training needs. These insights will enable PEC to design long-term employability and professional development programmes for engineers across the country. The council believes that the initiative will not only create global income opportunities for engineers but will also support Pakistan’s participation in the digital economy, promote export of engineering services, and contribute to foreign exchange generation for the country.
