ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Robbery and Dacoity Unit (AR&DU) of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested three gang members, involved in armed robberies and the snatching of vehicles at gunpoint, during an operation.
According to police officials, the arrested suspects include the gang leader Ali Asghar, an Afghan national, along with his accomplices Haider Ali and Hussain.
During the operation, police recovered seven snatched motorcycles, along with several valuable mobile phones from the suspects. Weapons and ammunition used in the crimes were also seized.
Police said that investigations revealed that the gang was involved in multiple incidents of snatching motorcycles and mobile phones from citizens at gunpoint.
The suspects were also linked to more than 10 cases registered at Humak Police Station and Industrial Area Police Station, where stolen items have now been recovered.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Islamabad Muhammad Jawad Tariq stated that Islamabad Police are continuing large-scale operations against organized and active criminal gangs. He emphasized that protecting the lives and property of citizens remains the top priority of the police.
Meanwhile, Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have devised a comprehensive traffic management plan for Chandrat and the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr to ensure smooth traffic flow and public convenience.
According to officials, more than 520 traffic officers will be deployed to busy roads, major commercial centres, and recreational areas across the city to manage increased traffic.
Special traffic squads will also be present at locations to guide citizens, while help desks will be set up in markets to assist the public. In addition, student volunteers will be deployed at various points to help ensure compliance with traffic rules and provide guidance.
Chief Traffic Officer Capt Hamza Humayun (retd) will personally supervise all arrangements. He said that strict action will be taken against those who found involved in one-wheeling and reckless driving during Chandrat and Eid holidays.
The traffic police have urged citizens to park their vehicles in designated parking areas near markets and cooperate with traffic officials to avoid congestion.
