LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the launch of the “Chief Minister Punjab Rehmat Card” for widows and orphaned children deprived of parental care.
A special meeting chaired by the chief minister decided to introduce the first-ever “Chief Minister Punjab Rehmat Card” initiative in Pakistan for the welfare of widows and orphans.
Special Assistant for Ushr and Zakat Rashid Nasrullah briefed the meeting participants about the project. The meeting was informed that financial assistance of up to Rs 100,000 would be provided through the Rehmat Card programme. In the first phase, more than 40,000 deserving families would benefit. The project will be launched immediately after Eid.
According to the briefing, widows and orphaned children will receive Rs 25,000 each through the scheme. Applications for the Rehmat Card can be submitted through a mobile application, web portal, call centre or the Zakat office.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that every citizen has a rightful share in Punjab’s resources and the government will utilise all available means to ensure that assistance reaches those who deserve it.
She said the Rehmat Card programme aims to help widowed women move towards self-employment and financial independence. She added that Punjab is a province where every citizen is cared for and that the initiative will enable widows and children to lead dignified lives with financial stability.
