KARACHI: On the directives of Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, a formal notification has been issued for a transparent and comprehensive inquiry into the Gul Plaza tragedy; a judge of the High Court of Sindh, Justice Agha Faisal, has been appointed to head the Inquiry Commission.

According to the Sindh Home Minister, the Inquiry Commission will conduct a detailed review of the building’s construction approvals, the legal status of the lease, and any violations of the approved building plan.

The Commission will also examine whether there were any obstructions in the emergency evacuation routes that may have contributed to the loss of life and property.

The Inquiry Commission will determine the adequacy of fire-fighting arrangements, identify possible shortcomings in fire safety audits, and assess any negligence on the part of the relevant authorities. In addition, the Commission will thoroughly examine the causes of the fire, the situation at the time of the incident, and the speed and effectiveness of the rescue operation.

The Sindh Home Minister stated that responsibility will be fixed against any government officials or building management found negligent, and no lapse at any level will be overlooked.

He emphasized that through strict measures and effective investigation, all facts will be brought to light.

According to the notification, the Inquiry Commission, headed by Justice Agha Faisal will complete its investigation and submit its report within eight weeks.

The Commissioner Karachi has also been directed to provide all necessary secretarial support to the Commission.

The Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar reaffirmed the Government of Sindh’s commitment to ensuring timely relief for the victims of the Gul Plaza tragedy and stated that the requirements of justice will be fulfilled in all circumstances.
