KARACHI: For improved water supply in the city during Ramazan, the Water and Sewerage Corporation has planned to plug the leakage in the city’s main supply line.

According to KWSB’s Spokesman, a leakage was detected in the main 84-inch diameter water line of Phase One located in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 19, after which it was decided to repair and restore the line.

The repair work will start on Monday at 12 noon to eliminate all the leakages in the line. The total duration of the repair of the water line has been set at 96 hours.

For completing the repair work, the amount of water supplied to the city from the Dhabeji Pumping Station will be temporarily reduced, due to which the city will face a shortage of about 200 million gallons of water per day. However, water supply from other pumping stations including Hub and Gharo will continue as usual without interruption.

He said that Karachi is supplied with a total of about 650 million gallons of water per day, while, despite the temporary shortage, the city will continue to be supplied with about 450 million gallons of water per day.

Due to the repair work, water supply is likely to be affected in various areas of Landhi, Korangi, Malir, Shah Faisal, Gulshan, Jinnah, Chenisar, Saddar, Lyari and Clifton. In addition, Landhi and Sherpao hydrants will also remain temporarily closed during the repair work.

The spokesperson has appealed to the citizens to use water efficiently and responsibly during the repair work.

According to the Water Corporation, after the completion of the project, Karachi’s water distribution system will improve significantly and a permanent solution to the problem of water leakage will be possible.
