LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that her government is translating every promise into tangible public relief, as Punjab witnesses its first-ever government-led project for the home delivery of quality essential commodities at the lowest possible prices.
The chief minister’s free home delivery project, being implemented through the Punjab Sahulat Bazaars Authority (PSBA), has set a new benchmark in public service by successfully delivering more than 312,000 orders to households across the province.
The service is currently operational in 35 cities through 46 Sahulat Bazaars, providing citizens with essential food items at their doorstep, free of cost.
Under the initiative, prices of 13 basic food commodities have been fixed at rates even lower than the officially notified DC rates, ensuring relief of up to seven per cent for consumers.
Items available for order include potatoes, onions, tomatoes, pumpkin, garlic, apples, bananas, dates, lemons, guava and watermelon. In addition, staples such as gram lentils, gram flour (besan), wheat flour and sugar are also available through the service.
The free home delivery app, available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, allows citizens to place orders conveniently, which are then delivered to their homes by PSBA riders without any delivery charges. According to official figures, the project has already helped citizens save Rs110 million, easing the financial burden on households amid inflationary pressures.
The chief minister reiterated her government’s resolve to shield the public from the impact of rising prices. “We will not allow the effects of inflation to reach the people at any cost. This is our commitment,” she said, adding that the scope of the free home delivery project would be gradually expanded to other cities across Punjab.
