KARACHI: Local and international gold and silver prices galloped to fresh historic highs on Monday, mirroring a global uptrend, traders said.

Gold prices soared by Rs6,200 to new all time-high of Rs462,362 per tola and Rs5,315 to Rs396,400 per 10 grams, All Pakistan Sarafa Gems and Jewellers Association said.

“Today is the highest ever gold rates locally and internationally as per the interbank,” spokesman for the jewellers association, Abdullah Razzaq said.

International gold bullion prices touched record level of USD4,400 per ounce, growing by USD62 while silver set a new benchmark of USD69.30 per ounce, rising by USD2.18 per ounce, it cited.

Following suit, domestic silver prices also settled at new height of Rs7,205 per tola and Rs6,177 per 10 grams, up by Rs218 and Rs187, respectively, according to the association.

It is worth noting that the open market may trade gold and silver at different prices as compared to those officially established by the association.
