Govt of Sindh organizes ‘Thar Desert Train Safari’

HYDERABAD: In an effort to promote tourism, the Culture and Tourism Department, Government of Sindh, organized the Thar Desert Train Safari, which commenced from Karachi Cantt Railway Station and was bound for Khokhrapar (Marvi Railway Station – Zero Point).

Upon the train’s arrival at Hyderabad Railway Station today, Assistant Commissioner Hyderabad City, Syed Noor Hussain Shah, welcomed the safari and presented a bouquet to Regional Director Tourism, Makhdoom Gulzar. On the occasion, the Assistant Commissioner stated that the initiative is a positive step toward promoting Sindh’s culture and tourism.

While speaking to the media, he said that the Government of Sindh is taking further measures to provide facilities to tourists, adding that Sindh is rich in cultural and tourist destinations. He emphasized that promoting tourism aims to introduce Sindh’s culture to both international tourists and the people of Pakistan, while also providing recreational opportunities.

Meanwhile, Regional Director Tourism Makhdoom Gulzar expressed his happiness over the warm welcome extended by the Hyderabad administration, media, and the public to the Safari Train. Later, the train departed from Hyderabad Railway Station for Khokhrapar Zero Point.

Details on the safari:

As per the Sindh government’s website, tickets were available for the trip that took place from December 20-22 under two categories: Rs15,000 for adults and 7,500 for children under 12.

Packages includes a sunset view, camping, bonfire, music, and dinner at Parchi Jeveri - a desert resort and landmark near Chhor Cantt in the Tharparkar district - along with an overnight stay onboard the train.

  • Day 1 (Saturday): Depart from Karachi Cantt. Station at 09:00 AM and arrive at Chhor (Perchi Ji Veri) at 4:00 PM.
  • Day 1 (Saturday): Evening: Enjoy sunset views, camping, bonfire, music, and dinner at Perchi Ji Veri.
  • Day 2 (Sunday): Depart from Chhor at 7:00 AM and arrive at Khokhrapar Zero Point at 8:30 AM. Have breakfast and enjoy sightseeing at Zero Point.
  • Day 2 (Sunday): Depart from Khokhrapar at 11:00 AM and arrive back at Karachi Cantt. Station at
    6:00 PM.
