KARACHI: A moderate earthquake struck southern Pakistan early Tuesday, December 16, sending tremors across Karachi and causing brief panic among residents.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the quake occurred at 12:51 a.m. Pakistan Standard Time. It measured 5.2 on the Richter scale and was relatively shallow, with a depth of 12 kilometers. The epicentre was located in the Arabian Sea, about 87 kilometers northwest of Karachi.
Tremors were felt in many parts of the city, including Saddar, I.I Chundrigar Road, Clifton, DHA, PECHS, Shah Faisal Colony, Buffer Zone, SITE Area, Tipu Sultan Road, Pahlwan Goth, Bahria Town, and Liaquatabad.
Residents reported feeling clear shaking, which led to fear and anxiety in several neighbourhoods. No immediate reports of casualties or major damage were received.
