LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the federal government was not planning to impose governor rule in Khyber Paktunkhawa province, however, the option of governor rule is available in case of lawlessness.
Speaking to the media in Chiniot, he noted that further proceedings in the case are still underway.
Bilawal Bhutto said the decision underscores that Faiz Hameed’s actions were illegal, adding that Hameed would still have avenues available for appeal. He maintained that while the verdict was significant, the legal process has not yet concluded.
Addressing speculations regarding the imposition of governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the PPP chairman said no formal discussion had taken place on the matter. He stated that governor’s rule remains a constitutional option, but alleged that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was compelling the federal government through its conduct. According to him, PTI’s politics continues to create conditions that escalate tensions between the province and the centre.
Bilawal Bhutto recalled that during the PTI government, leaders such as Maryam Nawaz and Faryal Talpur were deliberately targeted.
