LHC refuses to suspend Motor Vehicle Ordinance

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday refused to suspend Punjab Motor Vehicle Ordinance and sought reply from the Punjab government in response to a petition filed by a bar member Azhar Siddiqe within fortnight.

Earlier, the petitioner argued that under the ordinance the citizens are facing heavy penalties and criminal cases. He contended that the impugned ordinance was promulgated when the provincial assembly was in session. He argued that the ordinance cannot be issued when parliament is in session. He therefore asked the court to declare the ordinance in question as illegal and unconstitutional.
