ISLAMABAD: Chair-man Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza on Monday paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as he prepares to retire on November 27, 2025, upon completion of his tenure.

He will be the 18th and final CJCSC, as the post has been abolished following the 27th Constitutional Amendment Act, marking the conclusion of Gen Mirza’s tenure in one of the country’s most senior military positions.

In a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Sharif praised Gen Mirza for his professionalism and “outstanding” service to the nation.

He commended the outgoing CJCSC for his leadership and strategic acumen, which contributed to the strengthening of the country’s national security during a period of regional and global challenges.

Sharif acknowledged the general’s critical role in maintaining stability and fostering cooperation between the military and civilian institutions, ensuring a comprehensive national defence strategy.

In his remarks, Sharif highlighted Gen Mirza’s “instrumental” role in the armed forces’ readiness and the successful navigation of complex security issues.

He expressed his personal gratitude to the outgoing chairman for his unwavering commitment to the country’s security and defence infrastructure.

Gen Mirza thanked the prime minister for his kind words and expressed his continued commitment to Pakistan. They discussed the evolving security environment, with Gen Mirza emphasising his confidence in the “future” of the country’s military.

The farewell meeting concluded with Prime Minister Sharif wishing Gen Mirza success in his future endeavours, acknowledging his legacy of service to the country.
