A policeman was killed and another injured after explosive material went off due to a short circuit inside the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police station in Peshawar on Sunday, Aaj News reported quoting officials.

According to police, the blast occurred in the maal khana (storeroom) where explosive materials seized in various cases were kept. Initial investigations suggested that the fire triggered by an electrical short circuit caused the explosion, partially collapsing a section of the building.

CTD foils major terror plot

Rescue and fire brigade teams rushed to the scene soon after the incident, while four detainees present in the station were safely evacuated.

Eyewitnesses said flames erupted inside the station following the blast, and firefighters continued efforts to douse the blaze.

Police cordoned off the area and closed the adjoining road to traffic. A spokesperson said an investigation had been launched to determine the exact cause of the explosion.

CCPO Peshawar visits injured CTD official

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar Dr Mian Saeed Ahmed on Sunday visited the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) to inquire about the health of police constable Zaitullah, who was injured in the recent incident at the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police station.

SSP Operations Masood Ahmed, SP Cantt Ihtiraz Khan, and other senior police officers accompanied the CCPO during the visit.

Ahmed prayed for the early recovery of the injured official and directed hospital authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment.

Speaking on the occasion, the CCPO said that the sacrifices of the police force would always remain a source of pride.

“We stand shoulder to shoulder with our brave personnel in every difficult moment,” he added.
