Nawaz moves IHC to revive pleas against conviction in Avenfield, Al-Azizia cases

  • In 2018, Nawaz was sentenced to 10 and seven years in prison in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia references

Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif filed petitions in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to revive appeals against his conviction in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia references.

The pleas were filed by former law minister Azam Tarar and advocate Amjad Parvez on Monday.

Nawaz arrived in Islamabad from Dubai on a charter plane on Saturday, ending his four-year self imposed exile.

Ahead of his return to the country, the former PM secured bail by the IHC in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia cases until October 24.

In 2018, Nawaz was sentenced to 10 and seven years in prison in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia references, respectively.

The three-time former prime minister was declared a proclaimed offender by the IHC in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia cases over non-compliance after he went to London for medical treatment with the court’s permission in November 2019.

In the petitions filed today, the former PM requested that the appeals against his sentence be reinstated with the previous court proceedings.

The pleas further said that IHC dismissed Nawaz’s appeals for non-compliance in June 2021 due to his prolonged stay in London, arguing that the PML-N supremo never took advantage of the bail granted to him in all the cases.

A common Pakistani would have been in the gallows with only one case of income beyond means, but the Joker king is propped up to defy all laws written anywhere and everywhere in our constitution and criminal procedure code. Says a lot about our institutions and the people now know about these theatricals and who is behind them.

The IHC as a body for delivering justice.....stands horribly exposed.

Is there a provision in the law for a lower court to revive a plea decided by a higher court ? But then this is Pakistan and for the IHC bending or breaking the rules appears to be no big thing. Also all this is happening under the very nose of CJ Issa who only a short time ago came in riding on the fabulous white horse called "Justice".

There are NO judges and judiciary in so called Pakistan, they're paid chaprassi of Nawaz Sharif along with paid off Generals. NS is assisting the usa in break up of Pakistan so that 1. China is halted in BRI in Baluchistan 2. NS becomes the ruler of West Punjab after breakup and is accepted by india as a sovereign State with Modi Blessings Two things would also be consequential in view of number2. a) india will want Azad Kashmir and GB, but China will not allow that b) Khalistan will start looking like a reality as another sovereign State As the usa Congressman said Pakistanis will sell their mother too!
