Govt will extend maximum support to pilgrims for Hajj 2023: Ishaq Dar

  • More than 179,000 Pakistanis are expected to perform Hajj this year
Published March 4, 2023 Updated March 4, 2023 07:28pm

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday committed to extend maximum support and cooperation for facilitating the pilgrims for Hajj 2023.

Chairing a meeting on Hajj Policy-2023, he stated that Hajj is a sacred religious obligation that has to be performed by every Muslim and “we have to play our part for the blessings of Almighty Allah.”

According to a press release, the meeting was apprised of the Hajj-2023 policy and the expected number of Pakistanis who had applied for Hajj.

More than 179,000 Pakistanis are expected to perform Hajj this year, it added.

Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Mufti Abdul Shakoor informed the finance minister about certain issues related to foreign exchange and sought his support.

He further thanked the finance minister for cooperation and support.

Moreover, Pakistan International Airlines is also expected to commence Hajj operations shortly.

Lately, State Bank of Pakistan’s foreign exchange reserves have fallen to a critical level and currently stand at $3.81 billion. This has raised concerns about the availability of foreign currency in the open markets.

A bankrupt country committing $2 bn to elective religious obligations? Does it make sense?

He likes to pepper in talk about Haj support and Islamic banking to cover up his utter failures in every front. As usual, the religion card.

Bargaining and politics on hajj should not be done. The hajj price should not increase than Rs.550,000/- per head and parties involved in looting hajjis should not be given chance. This is my forth year i am not getting chance and govt should also suppress private hajj schemers.

It is not the governments job to make sure you get into Jannah, so this practice needs to be stopped. And besides, you are supposed to do Hajj only if you have the means to. If you cannot afford it, someone else (the government) is not supposed to pay.

Actuallly I correct myself, the government is not trying to get you into Jannah. Government officials are trying to get themselves into Jannah by using the public funds to take credit for “sending lakhs” to Hajj.

Meanwhile average Pakistanis are starving, and being fed meat mixed with excrement imported from China, India (thru Dubai) and Iran just to stay alive and to get passed day to day. Soon they won't even be able to afford that.

@Munawar Shah Afridi , It's not in hand of Govt to make calculation of Hajj package. Saudi Government announce package value in Riyals, then Hotel in Mecca and Madinah required and on last flights cost which is also too high. So consider what the PKR rate against USD.
