Blasts, terror activities: KCCI urges LEAs to ensure foolproof security

KARACHI: Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry President Muhammad Idrees, while expressing deep concern over the rising terrorism activities in Karachi, urged the law enforcement agencies to ensure foolproof security by installing CCTV cameras, deploying additional troops, carrying out snap-checking and intensifying patrolling in the commercial markets and other sensitive localities of the city.

While exchanging views with shopkeepers of Bolton Market where a bomb exploded two days ago resulting in killing a woman passerby and injuring 10 others, President KCCI assured that Karachi Chamber, being the true representative of the entire business and industry community, has already taken up this serious matter with LEAs with a humble requested to secure all the commercial markets of the city so that such terrorists’ activities could be effectively thwarted and law & order situation remains stable in every nook and corner of Karachi.

Muhammad Idrees, who was accompanied by Senior Vice President Abdul Rehman Naqi, Vice President Qazi Zahid Hussain and others, said that in addition to rising terrorism, the worsening street crimes also pose a big question mark on the performance of LEAs who have remained totally unsuccessful in dealing with the menace of street crimes while nowadays the agonies of public have intensified further as the city has witnessed three terrorists’ strike within 21 days.

He stressed that in order to effectively curb the rising street crimes and provide a safe and secure environment to Karachiites, the Law Enforcing Agencies have to revisit all their strategies being pursued to secure the streets of Karachi where people were being looted, injured and even killed without any fear even during broad daylight. Police and Rangers must intensify patrolling and snap checking at some of the most sensitive localities and commercial markets of Karachi from where the street crimes were widely being reported.

He underscored the need to carry out effective policing all over Karachi where the population has risen to more than 25 million whereas the law & order situation has been worsening day by day due to increase in terrorism activities, street crimes, burglaries, thefts, motorcycle and vehicle snatching etc. which were widely being reported from almost all parts of the city.

Muhammad Idrees hoped that LEAs would take practical steps to safeguard the streets of Karachi where it was high time to take stringent measures so that terrorism and street crimes could be controlled.
