  • PTA says work underway to restore internet services
  • Service was disrupted on Monday night, causing some users to experience slow internet speed

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that a fault in the submarine cable near Fujairah, UAE, which caused internet disruption in Pakistan, has been repaired.

In a tweet, the PTA said that work is under way to restore internet services that may have been slow or down for some users in the country.

It stated, "A submarine cable fault was reported yesterday near Fujairah, UAE due to which some users may have faced degradation in services."

"The faulty cable segment has been repaired and work is underway to make the services fully functional." The authority said it was monitoring the situation and would continue to update on it.

On Monday night, internet users experienced slow speed countrywide as a fault occurred in the 25,000-kilometre-long Asia-Europe double AE1 cable.

It was reported that the major 40-terabyte cable ruptured near Fujairah.

Fault in International Cable System Disrupts Internet Services Nationwide

Users across Pakistan experienced disrupted services as Internet Service Providers across the nation notified users of the fault.

The fault was said to be in SMW-5 international submarine cables. The southeast Asia–Middle East–Western Europe 5 is an optical fiber submarine communications cable system that carries telecommunications between Singapore and France.
