Covid-19: Pakistan reports another 61 deaths, 3,747 cases

At least 61 people died while 3,747 new Covid infections were reported during the last 24 hours across the country, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said on Sunday.

The NCOC stated that 57,908 Covid tests were conducted in a single day and of them, 3,747 turned out to be positive. The coronavirus positivity rate stood at 6.47 percent, it added.

Pakistan's overall death toll due to Covid has reached 26,175.

Earlier, the Sindh government decided to launch a Covid-19 vaccination campaign in schools and colleges from September 6 (tomorrow).

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Shah. The meeting decided that all students enrolled in grades 9 and 10, and above would be vaccinated against coronavirus and the consent certificate would be obtained from their parents.

On Friday, Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar briefed Prime Minister Imran Khan on the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the country and informed him about the steps being taken to stem the spread of the virus.

Covid-19 claims 74 more lives across country

In wake of the rise in number of coronavirus cases, the government imposed more curbs and closed educational institutions in 24 districts across the country.
