lescoLAHORE: Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) disconnected another 13,500 power connections of defaulters and accelerated the drive for recovering Rs 3 billions arrears from public and private sector. Chief Executive Officer, LESCO, Sharafat Ali Sial told APP here Sunday that private and public sectors owed Rs20,748.24 million and Rs6,263.47 million current bills and arrears respectively.

The LESCO has given final warning to other remaining public and private sector defaulters to clear their dues within the stipulated period or else face disconnection.

LESCO also got registered a record number of 7,095 FIRs during the last five months against consumers allegedly involved in power theft and recovered over Rs200 million as penalty from them.

Engineer Sharafat Ali Sail said that special campaign on the directive of Prime Minister has been launched for recovery of arrears especially dead ones and against power pilferage.

He said that a package of special incentives has been offered to employees and informers for effectively detecting the theft of energy. He said recently LESCO raiding team was given Rs two lac for detecting the power theft in a furnace plant.

He said that campaign launched in July last is yielding positive results as LESCO mobile teams each headed by Xens and SDOs are active and conducting successful raids.

Sial said that raiding teams have been constituted at sub-division, division and circle level and their overall output is being monitored on weekly basis. He said that special counters have also been set up for immediate reconnection after payment of default amount. He said that instalment of current bills have been banned.

He said that concerned Xen and SDO will be suspended if the connection of any defaulter was restored without payment of arrears.
