(Karachi) The prime minister has given approval to replace Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shoaib Dastagir, media has reported. Dastagir replaces Inam Ghani who has been given the command of the Punjab police.

Shoaib Dastagir would be the fifth police chief in two years to be replaced in Punjab.

As per details, the high-profile replacement has been made after the Punjab government faced an unusual situation after rifts developed between the newly appointed CCPO Lahore Umar Sheikh and IGP Dastagir over action against land grabbers.

It has been reported that the CCPO wanted to take action against the land grabbers but the IGP was a hindrance in the way.

Meanwhile, Shoaib Dastagir accused CCPO Sheikh of speaking against him. The police chief also blamed Sheikh of ignoring his instructions on sensitive issues. However, Umar Sheikh denied the allegations and said it is only a matter of “confusion” attributed to him.

Earlier, CCPO Umar Sheikh offered to apologise to IGP Dastagir after an alleged dispute between the two.

In a meeting of Police Service of Pakistan Chapter, chaired by Additional IGP Rao Sardar, Sheikh said that the IGP had so far issued two orders which were implemented.
