Speakers at a seminar at Mansoora, on Monday, appealed the Supreme Court to proceed against the elements responsible for destruction of economy in order to save the country.
They were of the view that the prevailing price spiral and unemployment are the 'gifts' of capitalism which is breathing its last, adding the Muslim world could salvage humanity at this juncture by establishing a common market, properly utilising its vast resources and a just system.
JI Secretary General, Liaqat Baloch presided over the seminar. Secretary Information JI, Dr Farid Ahmed Paracha also spoke on the occasion.
Baloch said that interest-based economic system is the root-cause of economic destruction. He highlighted that 1973 constitution laid down that the country's economy would be made interest-free within a period of 10 years but the capitalists, busy in exploitation, managed to get a stay order from the Supreme Court in this regard. The apex court did no vacate this stay order despite the appeals of Federal Shariat Court and Islamic Ideological Council. As a consequence, the country's economy could not stabilise. If the apex court vacated the stay, the country and the nation could be saved from further destruction, he maintained.
Former federal Finance Minister, Dr Salman Shah said that all the economic ills confronting the country could be overcome through proper planning by creating job opportunities and producing quality items, for sale in the world market, at low cost. He termed corruption and unfair distribution of resources main reasons of the prevailing economic mess, adding that an honest and competent leadership could steer the country out of the crisis.
In his address, former member, Federal Board of Revenue, Sarfaraz Ahmed Khan said capitalists have been 'sucking the blood of human beings' and causing concentration of wealth in a few hands. He added that IMF and World Bank are the offspring of this system. However, he said, people in the west have now risen against this system which is dying, as its champions do not have anything for the mankind.
