Fauji Akbar Portia Marine Terminals Limited (FAP) while clarifying a news item published in Business Recorder''s 11th February edition has stated that FAP was pre-qualified by TCP to handle fertilizer/urea in January 2011 after considering all the benefits associated with FAP Terminal.
FAP won the tender on the basis of lowest bid against the bids invited by TCP in February 2011. Accordingly, TCP awarded the contract to FAP for handling urea/ fertilizer vessels at PQA. The contract was challenged in the High Court and a stay order was obtained against FAP handling TCP cargoes through court proceedings where FAP was not made a party.
Subsequently, FAP through a petition requested a clarification of the court order and through a court ruling, of the Honourable Sindh High Court, on November 1st 2011 was cleared to be considered for handling urea /fertilizer vessels of TCP. Basing upon the new court ruling and the tender process, which was won by FAP on merit, the contract was awarded to FAP by TCP.
FAP has dedicated conveying, storage and dispatch facility to handle most forms of dry grain and fertilizer cargoes. The consortium representing FAP has more than thirty years of experience related to port operations. Effective February 7th 2012, FAP has been declared to handle vessels with drafts up to 12.8 meters. FAP now has a draft deeper than Gwadar (12.5 m) and KPT (11.6 m) and will be allowed to take vessels up to 75,000 DWT.
Other than Qasim International Container Terminal, FAP has now the deepest draft in Pakistan. This is a significant milestone, in FAP''s short history. The dedicated plant and equipment to handle urea / fertilizer, quicker discharge rate and deeper draft allows FAP to be the most efficient Terminal of Pakistan when it comes to handling imported Urea / Fertilizer.-PR
