Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the Punjab government was pursuing a comprehensive programme for the promotion of sports under which sports grounds were being constructed all over the province.
He was talking to media after inaugurating a hockey ground and a gymnasium in Model Town, here on Sunday. Members National and Provincial Assembly Umer Sohail Zia Butt, Naseer Ahmad Bhutta, Zaeem Qadri, Kh Salman Rafique, Chairman Pakistan Hockey Federation Qasim Zia, players and a large number of people were also present on the occasion.
Shahbaz said that provision of facilities for sports activities to the youth was responsibility of the Punjab government and it was fulfilling its obligation efficiently.
Replying to a question, he said that democracy was the name of furthering the mission of national service, removing the flaws and setting right the matters by learning lesson from mistakes.
He said that difference of opinion was the beauty of democracy and making public service motto was the basic principle of democracy.
He said that the issue of energy crisis was discussed with the Prime Minister during the recent meeting of the Council of Common Interest. He said the projects to generate energy through coal and biogas were also discussed in the meeting and the Prime Minister agreed to hold an energy conference in Lahore.
Speaking on the occasion, President of Pakistan Hockey Federation Qasim Zia said that Shahbaz was taking personal interest in promotion of sports particularly hockey. The Chief Minister also inaugurated Ittefaq Sports Complex in Model Town.
