Mental Health Federation of Pakistan (MHFoP) organised a reception for Professor Tanvir Ahmad Rana, the first Pakistani professor who is serving as a professor in Warwick University U.K. here on Sunday.
President Mental Health Federation Professor IAK Tareen hosted the function, while Professorof Emeritus King Edward University Professor Khalida Tareen, visiting consultant psychiatrist from Manchester U.K Dr Maqsood Ahmad and others were also present on the occasion.
ProfessorTanvir Ahmad Rana said that mental health problems are increasing in Pakistan due to financial crisis in country. He averred that people preferred death than life because they are suffering in serious depression and anxiety. Rana stated that crimes and suicides' trend is also increasing after credit crunch. He pointed that government should immediately introduce financial reforms in the country to give relief to the poor people.
The senior psychiatrist consultant Dr Maqsood Ahmad on the occasion said that eradication of corruption is necessary to get rid of the financial crisis in the country. He said ruling class should start the anti-corruption campaign from themselves adding mental problems have become serious issue in country because people could not afford the treatment. President Mental Federation Health Federation Professor IAK Tareen said that mental and physical disabilities are increasing due to the lack of diagnostic and treatment facilities.
