The Government and people of Pakistan join their Kashmiri brethren in observing the Kashmir Solidarity Day. The nation is fully united in calling for a just and peaceful solution to the dispute as enshrined in relevant UN resolutions.
The whole world knows that the Kashmiris are engaged in a peaceful struggle for their right to self-determination, which the international community promised in the form of UN resolutions. India had assured the world in the UN that it would let Kashmiris decide their fate. But the promise remains unfulfilled.
Pakistan Peoples Party has a distinguished position on the Kashmir issue. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the founding-chairman of PPP, had categorically stated to fight for a thousand years for Kashmiris' right to self-determination. Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto continued to draw the attention of the world community to the violation of human rights and garnered global support for the oppressed people.
The present government also brought it back into global limelight. During my meeting with the Indian Prime Minister in July 2009, I made it clear that durable peace in South Asia was not possible without Kashmir solution. India has so far failed to fulfil her commitment.
The international community must take note of the situation and speak out in defence of the fundamental rights of the Kashmiris. Pakistan reiterates her pledge to fully support the Kashmiris in the light of the Quaid's dictum that Kashmir is our jugular vein.
