PTA verifies 147.34mn SIMs

Published Updated

simISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has verified 147.34 million SIMs (Subscriber Identity Modules) and blocked 98.3 million unverified SIMs.

Till May 15, 2016, the PTA had blocked 98.3 million unverified SIMs out of which 14.98 million SIMs have been unblocked so far after verification by biometric process.

SIMs which could not be verified are still blocked, a PTA official told APP.

He said there is an impression that there are some SIMs working that are not verified by biometric process.

He appealed the public that, if there is any such case that should be immediately reported to the PTA so that appropriate action should be initiated against them.

However, the blocked SIMs can be activated once the owner can provide biometric verification at the respective cellular company's office, he added.
