FAISALABAD: US Consul General Nina M. Fite said here on Tuesday that there are opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation between two countries in industry, agriculture and social sectors to betterment of people, briefing in divisional commissioner office.
She added US believed in better ties and enhancements of its cooperation for development of Pakistan economy particularly in energy and education sectors.
Earlier, Divisional Commissioner, Syed Tahir Hussain, welcomed the US delegation and gave them briefing about the historical, geographical, cultural and industrial background of Faisalabad.
He informed that the development and population of this region was initiated after introducing the canal system and Faisalabad had gained industrial and agricultural development rapidly and now it was the third largest city of Pakistan.
He said the government had established mega projects of industrial estate and value added city outside the city area, keeping in view of problems confronted by urban population due to unplanned growth of industries in the city.
He said the Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA), Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and other nation building departments were working for providing clean water, sewerage, and health and education facilities to citizens.
The commissioner informed that young industrial entrepreneurs had established Faisalabad Development Trust (FDT) and various projects for the beautification of the city, uplift of the health and education institutions and welfare of population were being undertaken by this trust which was a valuable cooperation with the government.
