Netflix introduces new rating system

Popular streaming service, Netflix has decided to replace its five-star rating system with a new thumbs-up, thumbs-down rating format.

Netflix vice president of product, Todd Yellin thinks the new rating system will urge more and more people to give their feedback on Netflix TV shows and movies.

Yellin said the streaming giant has already been testing the replacement rating system among some customers and found a 200 percent increase in user reviews.

According to the Verge, Yellin said that theres an implicit understanding with thumbs-up / thumbs-down that people are doing it to improve their own experience rather than trying to rate it for the rest of the world and at the end of the day, its really about just getting more people to rate things.

Netflix is been using traditional star rating system for several years, but the entertainment company will now be switching to the binary thumbs-up, thumbs down format in April and will roll out globally.
