Time's up for Azhar Ali, warns PCB

Published December 15, 2016 Updated December 15, 2016 08:23am

imagePakistans One Day International (ODI) skipper Azhar Ali captaincy is in hot waters as the batsman has run out of favor from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

"We are more than happy with Azhar as a player, human being and a person," stated PCB Chairman Shahryar Khan, reported ESPNcricinfo.

However, its Azhars leaderships that had failed to impress the board, despite leading Pakistan to a 3-0 whitewash against the West Indies in the UAE. Shahryar was of the view that performance against Australia would be the key to gauge Azhar captaincy in ODIs.

"His leadership skills have not given us confidence and his place in ODI side is on shaky ground. It is also a fact that we had left it up to him to step down as captain during the England series but after a collective decision we decided to allow him to carry on for the West Indies series.

Shahryar further informed that T20 captain Sarfraz Ahmed is the strong contender for the ODI spot, with the coach Mickey Arthur too in favor of removing Azhar as the captain and having Sarfraz in charge.

"Sarfraz is a strong option because we might even consider him for all three formats as captain. In our culture, it is always best to have one captain for all three formats in Pakistan cricket and historically it works for us.
