C-sections altering the course of human evolution

C-sections having been on the rise in the modern society for decades now make up upwards of 30 percent of all deliveries in the United States.

A new study carried out in Austria, now suggests that as the commonality of C-sections continue to grow, they may in all likelihood be affecting the course of human evolution. A growing number of babies with heads too big for their mothers pelvises are being born as per the theory giving way to more C-sections.

Back in the olden days, the use of C-sections wasnt widespread consequently resulting in the death of more babies with larger heads and their narrow-hipped moms.

However, since C-sections tend to save those babies and the mothers their genes continue to be passed on.

The researchers believe that as the fetopelvic disproportion continues to grow, more babes would have a difficult time passing through their moms pelvis ergo C-sections are bound to increase; however it is argued that as of now it is only a mathematical theory.

Many gynecologists think that the prediction is not too far off, Dr. Mari Charisse Banez Trinidad, an obstetrician at the mayo clinic told foreign media, Look at obesity rates in our country and worldwide. As our weights are increasing, so are our babies weights. Its not a far-off proposition that if you have bigger babies, they wont fit as easily through the pelvis. And if you have pelvic disproportion, C-section is the safest way to deliver.
