Education Wing of Pakistan Muslim League (PML) Punjab will play a major role in achieving the ultimate objectives of the education policies of President General Pervez Musharraf through an organised network of committed educationists. This was stated by Rana Tahir Saleem Khan, General Secretary Education Wing PML Punjab while addressing a press conference.
He said that education remained on top of the government agenda to bring about a qualitative improvement in our society in addition to reactivating national economy.
He lauded the efforts of Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi for the promotion of education and literacy in this province and said that literacy rate has recorded a 100 percent increase only because of his revolutionary, bold and viable policies. The chief minister has now taken yet another bold decision to create an education wing in PML Punjab to dedicate itself for the promotion of education, he said.
He also mentioned the Literate Punjab Programme initiated in this province and said that chief minister has taken bold decision to give free education up to matric level with free books. Uniforms and scholarships are also being offered to girls in selected backward and under developed districts of the province, he added.
A record amount of Rs 53 billion has been allocated for the first time in the history of Punjab, he said and added that NGOs and World Bank have also appreciated chief minister's efforts while other provinces were also trying to follow the Punjab education policy.
About the education wing of PML, he said that it would be established at town and district level to bridge gap between private and government sector schools by recommending corrective measures.
He also nominated Khalid Hayat Kamoka as District President and Qamar-ul-Haq Abid as District General Secretary of the Education Wing.
