No decision has yet been taken on naming the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly.
The National Assembly spokesman said in a press release that the decision about the leader of the opposition would be taken shortly in accordance with the relevant rules.
The spokesman brushed aside media reports that National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain had assured to announce Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) Chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim as the leader of the opposition.
Despite passage of over a year, the speaker has not decided about the opposition leader. The Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) and the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) have filed the list of MNAs who support their respective candidates.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman is the MMA's candidate for the slot.
Meanwhile, talking to senior adviser to the International Foundation for Election System here, Chaudhry Amir said that the proceedings of the National Assembly were open to media to report.
The speaker apprised the senior adviser of the media policy of the National Assembly and arrangements for its implementation.
He said that media people were invited to cover the proceedings without any consideration or discrimination.
