ISLAMABAD: Secretary Water and Power Muhammad Younas Dhaga has said various projects were underway including Thar Coal for producing energy to overcome its shortage in the country.
He said that China would provide financial assistance of $1.2 billion for establishing 660 Mega Watt coal power plant in Thar.
Talking to a TV channel he said coal was a cheap source to generate electricity and the country was enriched with huge reservoirs of coal which were now being utilized for the purpose.
"Thar contains about 175 billion tons of coal which could be used to produce thousands MWs of energy for a long time and would be more than sufficient for country's requirement," he said, adding that the incumbent government was making all-out efforts to utilize these mega reservoirs.
He said coal was being used to generate energy all over the world and 40 to 50 percent of total energy produced globally was made through coal as it was a cheap source.
