imageISLAMABAD: The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has removed around 24,812 illegal domestic, commercial and industrial gas connections in different cities of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province during a nine month period.

"As part of the continuous efforts to discourage illegal use of gas, the company made significant achievements from July 2014 to May 2015, under which it disconnected 24, 812 illegal connections, removed 87.260 kilometer supply lines and lodged 558 FIRs against unauthorized users in different cities of the province," official sources in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources told APP here.

Giving details, they said, the company cut-off 5,580 domestic, 140 commercial and 27 industrial unlawful connections in different oil and gas producing districts of the province.

Besides, it removed 61.260 kilometer lines and lodged 64 first information reports (FIRs) against the illegal users of the commodity there.

In Peshawar, 17,000 domestic, 11 commercial and four industrial illegal gas connections were detected and removed, while 24.300 kilometer lines were detached and got registered 463 cases. Whereas 550 and 1500 domestic connections were removed in Mardan and Charsadda respectively, the sources added.

Commenting on the scale of gas theft in some areas of KP, they said Rs 6 billion theft was occurring in only one of the districts falling in the category of troubled areas.

The ministry, they said, in collaboration with the provincial government and local jirgas was making efforts to streamline the matters and make recoveries.
