imageISLAMABAD: Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Friday expressed the firm resolve to improve power bills recovery by controlling line losses and power theft.

Addressing at a condolence reference held here for the two Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) employees who were shot dead on March 10 in Sohan Islamabad. The two IESCO employees who were part of its power theft detection team who were killed by an unidentified person while they were on duty.

The minister paid rich tribute to the deceased employees and said such incidents could not deter, the government from taking action against power pilferage.

He said the both employees embraced martyrdom as they laid their lives in the line of duty.

Asif assured the heirs of the deceased that they would not be left alone and the government would provide them complete support.

He said that the Prime Minister while taking strong notice of the incident had issued direction to IG Islamabad to arrest the culprit involved in this heinous act at the earliest.

He said that over 90 per cent line losses were recorded in nine feeders of Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO).

He also requested the media not to report rallies of power pilferers when they stage protest against power load-shedding.

The minister said that even they were ready to de-electrify those areas besides removing power transformers from the areas where line-losses had exceeded to 90 per cent.

He said that currently 6-8 power load-shedding was being carried out while zero load-management was being observed in industrial areas for the first time in country history.

He said even 18 hours power load-shedding was also being done in high line-losses areas.

Asif said that transmission system was also being upgraded and in next two-three years, power load-shedding would be totally controlled.

Speaking on the occasion, CEO IESCO Malik Yousaf Awan thanked the minister Khawaja Asif, state minister Abid Sher Ali, Secretary water and power Muhammad Younas Dagha for expressing solidarity with deceased employees and promote action.

Recalling the deceased employees, he said that both were honest and dedicated workers of the company and owing to the efforts of such employees, the IESCO achieved number one position in all power distribution companies (DISCOs).

The reference meeting was also attended by State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali, Secretary Water and Power Muhammad Younas Dagha and workers and senior officials of IESCO.
