imageLOS ANGELES: A California judge on Monday revoked Chris Brown's probation stemming from his 2009 assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna, following an alleged assault in Washington DC in October.

The troubled US rapper, who appeared in court with on-again-off-again girlfriend Karrueche Tran, was also ordered to stay in a rehab facility and to return to court on February 10.

The 24-year-old allegedly punched a 20-year-old man who was trying to get a photo with Brown in October, and the criminal complaint suggested a "prima facie showing of violation," said the judge. But while revoking his probation, Los Angeles Superior Court judge James Brandlin said: "I'm not inclined to take Mr. Brown into custody" because of his general good behavior.

"I do want to emphasize that I'm pleased that he's doing well in the program," the judge added.

The good probation report was in contrast to his last one, which prompted the judge to order Brown to complete a 90-day drug abuse and anger management program.

Brown was arrested in February 2009 after getting involved in a physical confrontation with Barbadian superstar Rihanna that left her with a bruised and battered face.

Brown, a Virginia native, was required, after pleading guilty in court to the assault, to take part in domestic violence counseling and sentenced to five years' probation and community service.

California authorities have filed probation violation charges against Brown twice this year already, giving him an additional 1,000 hours of community service work on his sentence for beating the pop star.
