Northwest European gasoline barge refining margins edged higher on Friday and exports to the United States remained low. Arrivals of European gasoline and gasoline components to the United States were seen at about 202,700 tonnes so far in January, Refinitiv Eikon data showed. Last month, Europe exported around 990,900 tonnes of gasoline and components to the United States.

US oil refiners are expected to have 659,000 barrels per day (bpd) of capacity offline for the week ending Jan. 17, decreasing available refining capacity by 335,000 bpd from the previous week, research company IIR Energy said. Offline capacity is expected to rise to 884,000 bpd in the week ending Jan. 24, and fall to 758,000 bpd in the subsequent week.

Japan's naphtha imports for the petrochemical sector rose 8% in December from the same month a year earlier, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said.

Motiva Enterprises shut the small crude distillation unit (CDU) at its 607,000 bpd refinery on Wednesday to repair a leak, sources familiar with plant operation said. Also, Motiva moved the start of a planned 50-day overhaul of its 81,000 bpd gasoline-producing fluidic catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) by about two weeks to late January, the sources said.

Valero Energy Corp's Three Rivers refinery in Texas, with a capacity of 100,000 bpd, shut down a 23,000 bpd catalytic reformer on Friday morning, industry monitor Genscape said.

Delek's Big Spring refinery in Texas, with a capacity of 73,000 bpd, shut down a 21,500 bpd catalytic reformer on Friday morning. The reformer was recently offline from Jan. 12 to 14, and multiple additional units were also shut over the past week and remain offline, Genscape said.
