  • Mohammad Amir says he analyses the batsman 'go-to' shot.
  • The speedster jumped six places in the recent ICC Rankings for ODI Bowlers.

Pakistan pace spearhead Mohammad Amir's return to form has been a sigh of relief for the national cricket team and fans. The speedster, considered among the best in the world, has revealed how he counters the opposition batting line.

“From my early days, it was my habit that whenever I finished my over and got stationed on my fielding spot I start watching the batsman, I look at his [batsman] footwork and see what he is trying to do,” said Amir, in a video.

“Because in today’s age you have to make quick changes, as what would be your plan if it is not swinging because swing is already becoming rarer in modern cricket. I see what is the batsman go-to shot,” he added.

Earlier, the speedster jumped six places in the latest ICC Rankings for ODI Bowlers and from 13th place is now seated at the seventh spot with 663 points, sharing the position with Australian speedster Mitchell Starc.

The rise in rankings comes after Amir showed impressive bowling during the home series against Sri Lanka. The economical bowler took four wickets in two matches against the visitors, he was also Pakistan’s go-to bowler in the World Cup 2019 emerging as the country’s highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 17 wickets.

Speaking about the return of international cricket to Pakistan, Amir said that he feels proud to perform in front of home crowds. “It is a great honor for us to play in front of our home crowds, and we being cricketers were missing this thing because your stardom only rises when you are performing in front of your home crowd, their [the crowd] support motivates us to perform even better,” he said.
