Published December 21, 2018

Former Railways Minister Saad Rafique claimed on Friday the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of having a 'black law' and warned that NAB was destroying Pakistan's politics, economy and democracy.

Saad said this while he was going to attend his first National Assembly session since being taken into NAB's custody. The former minister was accompanied by Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) leader Marriyum Aurangzeb. He claimed,"NAB's 'black law' is damaging Pakistan's economy, politics and democracy."

However, the PML-N leader maintained that he was being treated well by NAB. Saad and his brother Salman Rafique have been in NAB's custody since December 11. On December 12, the NAB was granted a 10-day physical remand of the two brothers.

The brothers were arrested for their involvement in the Paragon Housing Society scam. NAB has accused Saad and Salman, along with chief executive of Paragon City Nadeem Zia and others, of launching an illegal housing scheme Paragon City (Pvt) Ltd in 2005 on the basis of forged and fabricated documents.

NAB also said that both Saad and Salman had received money from the housing society. NAB revealed that both brothers had admitted that they took millions of rupees as commission.
