Guardiola says leaving players out of final is 'terrible'

Asked at the pre-match news conference what it was like to have to break his selection news to the players, Guardiola said: "Terrible. It's absolutely disaster, don't be a manager in your life."
The Spaniard said there were no words that he could conjure up to ease the pain for the players concerned.

"Enjoy the travel, the coffee in the terminal, the night and the dinner, watching the other semi-final, enjoy the press conference, the walk, the training," Guardiola told reporters on Tuesday while describing Cruyff's philosophy.

City, along with Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, are the six Premier League clubs signed up for the new 20-club league announced on Sunday.
"If you ask me about these teams that have been selected I don't know why," the Spaniard told a news conference on Tuesday.

Argentine Bielsa, who steered Leeds back to the top flight after a 16-year absence this season, described Guardiola as a magical man and said he had given up trying to emulate the Spanish coach's style of play.
Guardiola, who previously hailed Bielsa as one of the most important influences on his trophy-laden managerial career, was quick to return the compliment.

With Sergio Aguero leaving the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season, City have been linked with Haaland in British media reports and Guardiola will get a closer look at him on the pitch in Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg.
Guardiola last week described the prospect of another record breaking transfer in the close season as "impossible", though on Monday he softened that stance by claiming a 100 million-pound signing was possible.

No English club has ever won both domestic cup competitions, the league and European Cup in the same season but City remain in the mix for all of them.
"Four titles has never happened before and I don't think it will happen this season with the situation," said Guardiola.

City's Premier League trip to Everton was initially scheduled for Dec. 28 but was postponed after a number of positive COVID-19 cases identified within the squad.
As a result, Guardiola's side did not play for a week between their 2-0 Boxing Day win over Newcastle United and a 3-1 victory over Chelsea on Jan. 3 -- which they played without eight first-team players.
