The Brazilian government signed a contract last month to buy 20 million doses of the Indian drugmaker's vaccine. Bharat Biotech applied for emergency use of the vaccine in Brazil on March 8.

Only about 11% of the more than 10 million Indians vaccinated had taken the Bharat Biotech shot as of last week.

Bharat Biotech, which created COVAXIN with the state-run Indian Council of Medical Research, has said efficacy data from the late-stage clinical trial on nearly 26,000 volunteers will be out by next month.
There's an inhibition/concern among the community in general regarding the use of COVAXIN.

No vaccine is a backup to the other - both vaccines are equally important, both vaccines are hugely immunogenic.
This achievement will indeed be hailed as a major Indian scientific achievement once efficacy data are released.

Private sector talks to acquire Bharat's COVAXIN vaccine would not interfere with the Brazilian government's efforts to acquire vaccines for the public sector.
Bharat Biotech said on Tuesday that it had signed an agreement with a Brazil-based pharmaceutical seller, Precisa Medicamentos, to supply the vaccine even though it has yet to be approved.

India's drug regulator has given emergency use approval to Bharat Biotech's COVAXIN, as well as to AstraZeneca and Oxford University's Covishield vaccine.
Bharat Biotech said it has signed an agreement with a Brazil-based pharmaceutical seller, Precisa Medicamentos, to supply COVAXIN.

The vaccine candidate, COVAXIN, received emergency use approval from India's drugs regulator on Sunday.
We have four facilities coming up and we are planning (to make) around 200 million doses in Hyderabad, 500 million doses in other cities
