PESHAWAR: The rehabilitation of Kohat Tunnel will start from April 15 as the tenders for the scheme have been issued to repair the tunnel affected due to terror activities while Ministry of Interior has been asked to provide two platoons of Frontier constabulary to ensure the security of the tunnel.
This was told to a high-level meeting held here Tuesday with Chief Secretary, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ghulam Dastagir in the chair.
The meeting reviewed in detail the implementation status of the decisions taken in the last meeting and the progress so far made by the concerned departments in this regard.
Additional Chief Secretary, Secretary Home, Secretary Finance, Secretary C&W, Secretary Culture, Commissioner Malakand Division, concerned authorities of the Pak Army and other concerned quarters attended the meting.
The meeting also reviewed progress on the rehabilitation of the flood affected infrastructure and step taken for the promotion of sports and tourism in district Swat.
Regarding the progress on the rehabilitation of flood affected infrastructure especially roads and bridges in Swat, it was told that a memorandum of understanding had been signed with Asian Development Bank for the rehabilitation of Fateh Pur, Kalam Road and bridges on it; and it will be opened for traffic in the upcoming summer while work on the rehabilitation of Ayub Bridge is in final stages.
Dastagir directed the authorities of Irrigation department to prepare a working paper within two weeks to start work on the rehabilitation of the irrigation canals in Swat.
The Chief Secretary also directed all the concerned authorities to complete arrangements well in time to declare Swat as tourist spot this year so that the district could once again be turned into the centre of tourism.
Meanwhile, chairing another high level meeting to address the issue of unscheduled power breakdown in the province which result law and order situation in some of the districts, the Chief Secretary directed the high ups of PESCO to take all necessary measures to put an end to unscheduled loadsheding, redress the complaints of the public regarding over-billing and restore the trust of the public.
Besides the high authorities of PESCO, Secretary Home, Secretary Finance, CCPO Peshawar and other concerned quarters attended the meeting. It was decided in the meeting that a team of police personnel will be deputed on regular basis in every district to facilitate the staff of PESCO to stop Kunda Culture.
