European stocks climb at open; London adds 0.88%

LONDON: European stocks climbed on Monday, after earlier gains in Asia, with London's benchmark FTSE 100 index up 0.88 percent at 5,768.33 points.

Frankfurt's DAX 30 rallied 1.76 percent to 6,782.30 points and in Paris the CAC 40 climbed 1.60 percent to 3,870.72 points.

Asian shares rose Monday on hopes that crews would avert a meltdown at a Japanese nuclear plant, but dealers were still cautious while air strikes in Libya hurt investor sentiment and sent oil higher.
