LSM grows by 1.03pc in 7 months

ISLAMABAD: Despite energy shortage, the production of Large Scale Manufacturing (LSM) grew by 1.03 percent during the first seven months of the current year as against the same period of last year.

The overall Quantum Index Numbers (QIN) of LSM stood at 200.63 points during Jul-January (2010-11) as compared to 198.59 points in July-January (2010-11) last year, according to data of Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).

The QIN shows industrial productivity of 100 items collected by Oil Companies Advisory Committee (OCAC), Ministry of Industries and Production and provincial bureaus of statistics (PBOS).

The official data for petroleum products compiled by OCAC showed a negative growth of 6.25 percent, the Indices of ministry of Industries showed increased of 0.69 percent while the POBS indices grew by 2.66 percent during the period under review.

Meanwhile, the industrial production during January 2011 increased by 0.83 percent as compared to December 2010. The over all growth during January was recorded at 225.98 points against 224.13 points in December 2010.

The products that showed positive growth during July-December (2010-11) included,  Lubricating oil (10.90%),  solvant naptha (17.83), Sugar (8.08%), cotton yarn (1.46%), cotton cloth (0.34%), paper and board (6.83%), phosphate fertilizers (2.62%), jeeps and cars (15.10%), LCV's (21.18%) , motorcycles (17.98%).

The other items that witnessed increase in production included vegetable ghee (3.81%), cooking oil (14.73%), wheat and grain milling (6.99%), 5 starch & its products (14.56%), upper leather (5.28%), sole leather (85.83%), footwear (20.71%), tablets (7.62%), motor tyres (7.54%),  safety raiser blades (17.92 %) and 43 refrigerators (0.84).

The products that showed negative growth during July-December (2010-11) included jet fuel oil (13.21%), kerosene oil (28.35%),  motor spirits (7.96%),  high speed diesel (5.02%), diesel oil(24.79), furnace oil (7.69), jute batching oil (22.88%),  LPG (18.30%),  cigarettes (3.35%),  jute goods total (20.30), hessian (0.03), sacking (29.92), soda ash (5.50%), caustic soda (4.52%), nit.

Fertilizers (9.14%), glass plates & sheets (14.11%), cement (10.58%), coke - Pakistan steel (11.46%), pig iron (21.79%), billets/ingots (6.08%),

The other industrial items that witnessed negative growth included tractors (3.30%), Trucks (12.20%), buses (26.06%), tea blended (0.83%),  beverages (15.24%), woollen & carpet yarn (35.30), knitting wool (10.58%), cotton ginned (10.51%), injections (30.25%), paints & varnishes (16.02%), cycle tyres (10.58%), cycle tubes (11.31%), motor tubes (6.03%), diesel engines (19.61%), deepfreezers (40.97%), airconditioners (17.37%), electric bulbs (15.40%), electric tubes (52.31%), electric fans (7.30%) and electric motors (7.34%).
