Gainful employment has emerged as the most profound challenge in Pakistan following the Covid-19 spread or outbreak. For almost two months, a vast majority of the country's population is finding it extremely difficult to cope with a situation which poses grave danger to their means of securing the necessities of life. A very large number of them have already lost their livelihoods because of the lockdown caused by Covid-19 spread. According to the International Labour Organisation (ILO), nearly half of the entire global workforce is in immediate danger of having their livelihoods destroyed by the coronavirus pandemic. The ILO said the risk fell on those workers in the informal economy, and three quarters of them, some 1.6 billion people were at risk in the second quarter of 2020.

It is needless to say that there is no light at the end of the tunnel. In other words, there is no reason to believe that the present bad situation will end anytime soon.
