The federal cabinet, which is scheduled to meet on Tuesday (today) with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair, will announce billions of rupees relief package for exporters, industry and poor segments of society which have been hit hard by the coronavirus.
Ministry of Finance has finalized consultations with public and private sector stakeholders on the relief package which will also include deferment of electricity and gas bills. The issue of petroleum products prices will also come under discussion for an informed decision.
According to media reports, Rs 3000 per month will be given to seven million daily wagers across the country. A Rs 200 billion relief package for exporters was also approved at a high level meeting. According to Minister for Economic Affairs, Hammad Azhar, in his tweet has confirmed that the economic team is finalising an economic relief and stimulus package that shall be announced on Tuesday.
He further stated that Prime Minister office, members of cabinet and government officers in multiple Divisions have worked tirelessly over the past days to work out proposals and take decisions. The sources said a mechanism for provision of food or cash for poor and daily wagers will also be announced.
The prime minister has also held a number of meetings with the officials to prepare a comprehensive package for the vulnerable. The Power Division will give presentation to the cabinet on possible relief to the consumers, which has been prepared in consultation with the Finance Ministry.
The Cabinet will also approve giving acting charge of CEO of IGNITE National Technology Fund to Member IT, Syed Junaid Imam, on an interim basis. The National History & Literary Heritage Division will be renamed as the National Heritage & Culture Division and the cabinet will review rates (lease money) for allottees of the Evacuee Trust Property/Land in District Nankana Sahib.
According to Ministry of Interior, Petroleum Division (Policy Wing) Directorate General of Petroleum Concessions has requested for extension in application of the Pakistan Essential Services (Maintenance) Act, 1952 to all classes of employment under Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) for a further six months effective from February 5, 2020.
A summary was moved to the Cabinet Division for approval of Cabinet regarding application of the Pakistan Essential Services (Maintenance) Act, 1952 to all classes of employment under PPL for a further period of six months with immediate effect. The Cabinet in its meeting held on July 2, 2019 had accorded approval and accordingly a notification was issued for a period of six months from August 5, 2019 to February 4, 2020.
In order to ensure uninterrupted operation of the organization, the Ministry of Interior has recommended application of the Pakistan Essential Services (Maintenance) Act, 1952 to all classes of employment under PPL for a further six months with immediate effect under section 3 of the Act.
