As precautionary measures, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has suspended all passenger ferry services with Iran until further notice over coronavirus fears.

As per UAE news agency WAM, the development is part of preventive measures being taken by the UAE to identify suspected coronavirus cases.

The Federal Authority for Land and Maritime Transport has banned ferry services with the Islamic Republic of Iran until further notice, and all commercial vessels coming in to the country to present a statement of health condition for their crews, 72 hours ahead of arrival.

The development is part of the proactive measures being taken by the UAE to identify suspected novel coronavirus cases, prevent the spread of the virus and ensure protection of the society and its safety as per international practices and guidelines.

Under the new measures, all UAE port authorities have to report to Federal Authority for Land and Maritime Transport any suspected coronavirus cases onboard the ships docking at the country's ports, khaleejtimes reported.

Furthermore, the UAE banned all flights to and from Iran over the outbreak of the new Coronavirus, just a day after its spread from the Islamic Republic was announced across multiple Mideast nations.

Iran meanwhile raised the official death toll from the virus to 15 killed amid 95 confirmed infections.

The coronavirus has infected more than 80,000 people globally, causing around 2,700 deaths, mainly in China.
