Pests may plague standing crops, as the Met Office warned the farmers of the threat, asking them to step up protection amid frosting weather in the country.

It said that farmers should spray pesticides and irrigation methods to hedge their crops against the seasonal pests' attacks that may ravage production. It said that growers should also make it sure to safeguard their nurseries and vegetable crops from frosting weather.

The daytime temperature is likely to stay below normal but at nights to be slightly below normal in the most of the agricultural plains of the country until Jan 31. Generally, it said, a normal wind pattern may prevail in the most of the agricultural plains.

Weather in Punjab is likely to remain mainly cold and dry weather with a scattered rainfall with snowfall over hills in upper parts of the province from Jan 25 onwards. Past 24 hours: Scattered rain occurred in districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan while isolated falls in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Bahawalpur, Quetta and Kalat.

Snowfall also recorded in Malamjabba, Kalam, Dir, Skardu, Bagrote, Parachinar and Murree. Weather remained cold and partly cloudy in the most parts of the country.

Malamjabba received 20 mm of rainfall, Parachinar 19 mm, Muzaffarabad City 17 mm, Balakot 13 mm, Upper Dir and Garidupatta 13 mm, each, Murree 11mm, Pattan 10 mm, Kakul and Muzaffarabad Airport 9 mm, each.

Malamjabba received 9 inches of snowfall, Murree 6, Bagrote 3, Parachinar, Kalam 2, Skardu and Upper Dir 1, each. Skardu witnessed minus 17 degrees Celsius, Astore and Gupis minus 12, each, Bagrote and Parachinar minus 10, each, Hunza minus 8, Malamjabba minus 5 and Kalam minus 4.
