Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has said that credit goes to the PTI government for launching the Rs32.70 billion Jalalpur Canal project. "The fate of the people will be changed with the completion of this project which would also ensure progress and prosperity of the area along with the ecosystem's transformation. This project would encourage socio-economic and cultural activities in the area," the CM said in a statement on Friday.
Sardar Usman Buzdar said that Jalalpur Canal is a complete irrigation system. The 117-KM long canal would be constructed from Rasool Barrage to Khushab while the length of link canals would be 93-kilometre, he said.
He said that Jalalpur Canal system would catalyse a green revolution in 80 surrounding villages of Khushab and Pind Dadan Khan by irrigating more than 1.70 lakh agricultural lands. Around 0.4 million persons would be directly facilitated, he added.
The CM said that a plan has been devised to prevent Jalalpur Canal from the devastations of floods. About 18 flood control channels would be constructed for the safe disposal of Jhelum River's floodwater along with the construction of 72 flood water disposal channels.
