The Foreign Office said Friday that Pakistan did not participate in Kuala Lumpur Summit 'as time and efforts were needed to address the concerns of major Muslim countries regarding possible division in the Ummah'.

The statement comes in response to media queries about remarks attributed to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that "Pakistan decided to stay away from the KL Summit because of the Saudi Arabia's alleged threats of economic sanctions".

"Pakistan did not participate in the KL Summit as time and efforts were needed to address the concerns of major Muslim countries regarding possible division in the Ummah," said Foreign Office spokesperson Aisha Farooqui.

She said that Pakistan will continue to work for the unity and solidarity of the Ummah, which is indispensible for effectively addressing the challenges faced by the Muslim world.
